2019 Spring Symposium: Study in Sound
Study in Sound 2019

Sound Arts and Industries Class of 2019 presented their final Studies in Sound in June 2019. The two-day event included interactive sound art performances (with a Max-based android suffering unrequited love), completed albums, challenging podcasts, and cinematic sound designs.

Visiting Artist: Paula Fairfield

Paula Fairfield spoke at Annie May Swift Auditorium May 16, 2019 in an event open to the public. The following day, she held a masterclass on film sound design for Sound Arts and Industries students. Fairfield was the sound designer for Game of Thrones. You can hear her featured in our podcast episode released on August 9, 2019.

“Sonic Spring”

On May 2, 2019 Jeffrey Gardner (’19), Shelly Liu (’19), Madhav Ghei (’19), and Russell Gillespie (’18) performed multichannel sound pieces for “Sonic Spring” at the Chicago ARUP SoundLab, a unique 14-channel 3-D sound system.

Visiting Artist: Tania El Khoury

Tania El Khoury gave an artist talk April 25, 2019 in an event cosponsored by the Departments of Performance Studies and Theatre. El Khoury is a live artist whose installations and performances focus on audience interactivity and are concerned with the ethical and political potential of such encounters.
